Abstract
The purpose of this study was to establish the method of detection of early dental caries and to investigate the mechanism of decalcification. The authors had analysed the decalcified calcium ion concentration by atomic absorption septroscopy and made artificial mouth to experimented the effect of sugars and oral micro-organisms on dental caries. The effects of radio-isotoped sucrose and St. mutans 10449C on decalcification of tooth enamel by using liquid scintillation counter was experimented and discussed. The obtained results were as follows: 1. The concentration of decalcified calcium ion was propotional to absorbance of atomic absorption spectroscopy. 2. The critical point of decalcification was assumed pH 5.0-5.5. 3. It seemed that the early dental caries lesion was developed by acid which was produced by oral microorganism and sucrose.
